#RainbowKozoDrawings
“When I work on my paintings, I feel they can grow and take on a life of their own.”
– Mariana Guerrero

Playing with the sound quality of the phrase when pronounced and referring to spaces where we have now adopted new forms of communication, #RainbowKozoDrawings is presented as a collection of words compressed in hashtag code that announces what we will later find: a series of colorful drawings painted in gouache on Kozo Japanese paper, which has been adopted as the ideal support due to its constitutive characteristics —thin yet strong fibers capable of holding the moisture of the technique used, thus also achieving a genuine translucency in each piece.
In its total universe, the series forms a rainbow where image and frame come together as a single piece, functioning as fragments of a colorful mechanism. Through this, the dialogue of atmospheres and reminiscences of strange veiled figures is amplified, coexisting between the real and the imaginary as a set of unexpected narratives, full of insinuations and ellipses.

Although for Mariana Guerrero it may not be something explicitly projected, it seems that in her work, she seeks for the viewer to be the one who ultimately assigns meaning to the image. #RainbowKozoDrawings invites us to strip away established categories of the abstract and the figurative, immersing ourselves in our own subjectivity as interlocutors. One could be facing a mask, a face, a landscape, or even the very expression of an emotion.
