Monocromos
My compositions inhabit a space where abstraction, geometry, and images of my subjectivity converge. These paintings present a completely new symbolism in my work, with a return to oil painting that led me to leave behind a more youthful, colorful, and gestural image.
Hand in hand with oil, with its slow drying time and creamy consistency, I began exploring with a reduced palette of neutral colors, blues, greens, and grays. This restriction allowed me to focus on composition and the emergence of another image, which gave rise to the Monocromos series.

At the beginning, there is always the color from the tube —the deep ultramarine blue or the fiery carmine red— to create the palettes. Then, another color emerges, the dirty, mixed one, forming as a result of the action on the canvas. Using different tools, such as spatulas or rubber combs, I remove some of the still-wet oil paint in certain areas, subtly revealing a dry color layer from the previous one. I’m interested in the vibration that occurs between the colors in dialogue, either by contiguity or by the juxtaposition of layers.
